Lovin’ Las Vegas

From all those movies I’ve seen about Las Vegas, it’s as if I’ve already been there multiple times. Who could forget those iconic Las Vegas movies that showed the whole world all that sparkle and glamor of the resort city? The casino heist in Ocean’s Eleven, the blackjack counting techniques in 21, and the impromptu wedding and drinking binge in The Hangover: These movies depicted the party nightlife and high-stakes gambling involved in Las Vegas. And boy, don’t we all want a full-body experience of the city!

Well, not everybody who visits Las Vegas stays at the Bellagio or Ceasar’s Palace. So for us average people, we stayed at a practical hotel with a swimming pool on the rooftop and a very recognizable tower that shows the view of the entire city.

Stratosphere Hotel

Stratosphere Hotel Tower

At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States.

If gambling is your main reason for going to Las Vegas, don’t look no further from your hotel because all hotels should have a casino at their entrance. In fact, right as we entered from the parking area, it was all slot machines and card tables all over the place; we had to go round in circles just to find the front desk. I heard even the Las Vegas airport has slot machines in the lobby. Crazy, huh? Well, that’s why they are aptly called Sin City.

Allan chose this hotel because he thought it was easy to find because of the tower, which you can always find wherever you are on the Las Vegas strip. Besides the cheap price of just around $70 a night, we got an unlimited free admission to the tower and discounts to their house concerts and thrill rides. But we didn’t venture to the concerts and thrill rides anymore because there was just too little time and so much to see in Las Vegas! Maybe next time, I hope!

Treasure Island’s Sirens of TI

One free live show that you must not miss while in Las Vegas is the Sirens of TI, which is an outdoor musical performance at the Treasure Island hotel’s strip entrance. They repeat the show four to five times a day subject to weather conditions. Make sure to check out their website for the showtimes and get there early because they always attract a big crowd!

Sirens of TI is about these beautiful singing sirens who lure hunky pirates into their cove through their seductive melodies. I don’t know how they didn’t get censored for some of the sexual innuendos in the lyrics and the gyrating dance moves. But I guess it’s Las Vegas and the tourists just cared for pictures anyway.🙂

The Venetian Hotel

Like a little Italy in the middle of the Las Vegas strip, the Venetian Hotel teleports you to a European country as soon as you enter this luxurious hotel. And it was somewhat like a time travel too because its brightly lit, cloud-painted ceilings would deceive you and make you think it was daytime. A well-played trick for drinking gamblers.

The Venetian Hotel

It’s like being taken to Venice, Italy! Take a gondola ride on the Grand Canal and see the shops and cafes as you listen to the beautiful voice of the gondolier.

When we weren’t playing the slot machines, we went casino hopping and took pictures of the amazing architecture of the hotels and casinos on the strip. Everything was all about the money, shopping, and gambling here with all the visually tempting designer shops and drinks wherever you walk. But the best way to get cheap drinks here is while playing at the slot machines. Free beverages, including beer, Captain Coke, pina colada, and margarita; just tip the server a buck every time you order. Not a bad deal at all since we got our money back from the slot machines and won a few bucks too!

Pawn Stars’ Gold & Silver Pawn Shop

Before we left Las Vegas, there was one place we couldn’t just ignore–the Pawn Stars pawn shop! No, we didn’t get to see the Old Man, Rick, Corey, and ChumLee in person, but it was still a cool experience to see the popular History Channel show location. Disappointingly, it wasn’t a real honest-to-goodness pawn shop, but was more of a souvenir store with ChumLee mugs and pictures all over the place. They do sell antique and jewelry but they are not the main attraction here. There’s also a long line of fans and tourists outside the store as they moderate the people coming in and out.
